Nickname: Gets called the “Milkybar Kid” for his youthful looks, but another player (Ben Grundy) got there first with that one, so we still think of him as ‘mcepitome’, his original screen-name.

Started Playing: In his second year of Uni he was invited to a homegame by some neighbours and did rather well. He then joined the Uni Poker Society and started playing online.

Favourite starting hand: 57 suited. James was once card dead for two hours so decided to raise 57suited as the first hand he had raised during this period. It came down 557 and he won a nice pot with it.

Poker Achievements:

Made back-to-back final tables in his first large buy-in live tournaments in Midlands Masters 2005, 4th in a €1000 event in WHUPC in Barcelona in 2006 and was the 1st person to ever get knocked out of a GUKPT event!

Bio:

Born in Lincoln and lived there until he was 18. Studied Law with Applied Social Studies at Keele University, where he graduated earlier this year. As well as a poker player he is an MC (think Eminem). In addition to poker he enjoys watching and playing football, reading, watching films and traveling.

Sponsorship Status:

James has been entered into a number of tournaments by Blue Square. Having shown a great aptitude for heads up play, he was chosen to represent the company at the 2006 and 2007 World Heads Up Championships in Barcelona. The next events he plays in Blue Square colours have yet to be determined.

Advice for Beginners:

Don’t play too many hands, and make sure you are making a profit in low stakes before you move up a level.
