Nickname: The Legend or Leg-End. Previously known as ‘The Worm’ but these days Mickey is more fittingly known as ‘The Legend.’ After taking an unexpected tumble from the stage during the 2005 European Poker Awards ceremony and a subsequent slip into a swimming pool in Monte Carlo last year, this nickname has now morphed into the ‘Leg-End’.

Started Playing: A long time ago, in a Cardroom far far away.

Favourite starting hand: Pocket Aces. Mickey says anyone who says anything different to this is just being silly.

Bio:

Mickey has been playing poker for as long as anyone can remember. He was one of the first wave of Brits to venture stateside to play in the WSOP back in the 1970s and early 1980s. Now he is mainly a tournament player but in his day he sat in the biggest cash games going, regularly taking on the likes of Chip Reese, Doyle Brunson and the late Stu Ungar during his Vegas sojourns. He has many wonderful tales to tell about the game. In 2005 he topped the European rankings and has made several WSOP final tables in his career. He is a regular and one of the most recognizable faces on the UK and European poker circuits.

Sponsorship Status:

Mickey has been fully sponsored by Blue Square since the beginning of 2006. Previously he had competed in the Unusual Suspects sponsorship challenge, but after being eliminated in round one he set his sights on winning the 2005 European rankings, which he did. As a reward for this achievement and in recognition of his place in UK poker history, Blue Square awarded him a one year sponsorship deal, which was renewed for 2007. Mickey plays in Blue Square colours wherever he plays, whether it is an event he is being sponsored into or not. He will be playing for the firm at the WSOP and in EPT and other major events later in the year.
